Questionnaire
Note: Comments on this survey were required to total less than 275 words.
- 1.) What are the top three issues affecting our children and youth
today? What do you propose to do about them?
- (a) Despair--Rooted in the (accurate) belief that people have
less and less control over their own lives and destinies. Libertarians seek to
reverse this trend.
- (b) Lack of personal self-esteem-- Large institutions and collectivist
teaching inhibit development of children's personal identities and individual
pride.
- (c) Debt-- Over 60 years of "rolling over" public debt have
required heavier taxation each generation to pay the interest. When the "baby
boom" generation retires, this gambit will end; the principle must be
repaid; and so a financial crisis looms over younger generations. Only a
drastic reduction in government spending now; privatization of government
services now; and sales of federal property to retire federal debt now can avert
disaster.
- 2.) How do you weigh children's and youth issues against other issues?
- (unanswered due to total word count limitation)
- 3.) How will you ensure that families and communities are safe for children
and youth? What are your long term goals to prevent violence?
- The War on Drugs destroys families; makes our streets unsafe, corrupts
government; and enriches and empowers organized crime in the same way that
Prohibition did earlier. It is time to repeal this disastrous policy--to render
our streets and schools safe once again--and start treating drug abuse (like
alcoholism) as the personal problem it is. We don't have to live in a war zone.
- 4.) How will you ensure economic security for every child, youth and
family?
- Government drains almost 48% out of the economy every year--requiring two
earners per family, and leaving them both exhausted and barely solvent at the
end of the year. Cut government to its constitutionally-authorized scope and
disposable income would leap, and people would have more time for their families
and volunteerism.
- 5.) How will you ensure comprehensive health care for all children, youth
and pregnant women? 6.) How will you ensure quality education for every child?
-
Government giveaways distort markets and inhibit free-market provision of
services. Get government out and working, affordable alternatives in health
care and education will be universally available--as restaurants and groceries
are in all neighborhoods today.
