Christopher Schmidt, Libertarian
for Congress
To appear 10/28/96.
Responses were limited to 15, 25, 50, 50, and 50
words, respectively.
- What experience and qualifications do you have?
- Attended local schools; B.S. Yale University; programmer 8 yrs. Stanford;
editor, San Mateo Libertarian.
- Why are you running?
- To give voters a chance to vote for a smaller government alternative to the
two big government parties.
- How can congress help stop the drain on state funds caused by illegal
immigration?
- Honor the Constitution, which does not grant the federal government
authority to micromanage state, local, and private programs like welfare,
education, and health care. Voters can help by voting against federal
candidates who disregard the 10th Amendment.
- What is the state of San Mateo County's economy and what can you do to
improve it?
- Our local economy is in good health, but people would enjoy life more if
government didn't collect so much of their incomes in taxes--allocating money in
ways different than people would if they spent their own money.
- What other issues do you think are crucial?
-
- The Communications Decency Act shows that Congress desperately needs more
legislators who respect the First Amendment on its technology committees.
- I would also work to privatize Social Security immediately--before it goes
bust in 2025. We mustn't delay.
- Congress should stop encouraging industries that aggravate global warming,
like coal mining.
